Porto Petro is part of the municipal district of Santanyi, on the south east coast of mapMallorca and is probably one of the last truly picturesque fishing villages left on the island. Untouched by heavy tourism, it sits comfortably between Cala d'Or and Mondrago Natural Park. As the crow flies the village is only 65km, or 40 miles east of Palma and its international airport. Journey time by car takes about 1 hour. Taxis cost about €70 but to really enjoy the area car rental is desirable and not particularly expensive.

With a population of approximately 1000 Porto Petro may be small compared to its bustling and smart neighbour Cala d'Or but it does offer VPP frontall the amenities necessary for you to enjoy your stay.

There are several restaurants that line the harbour. Two small supermarkets provide everyday needs and a pharmacy, a hairdresser, some boutique type shops aa well as the only night club in the village, "Bar Cave".

There is even a bus service for those who want to getbeach "down and dirty" with the local populace. Despite some common perceptions we don't think live chickens are allowed on the bus any more.

Although there is no beach in the village there are two within a few minutes walk of Villa Kaspian, the nearer being only three minutes walk from the villa.

Mondrago Natural Park is the only reserve of its type on the island. It was created in VPP front1992 to conserve its natural heritage. This includes nearly 800 hectares of pine wood that protects many species of wild animal and birds. The footpaths along the rocky coastline are fairly easy walking and there are many small sandy coves, some accessible by car as well as on foot. A few of the beaches offer some services but many are completely unspoilt. The clear sea glows a breathtaking turquoise that no photograph can capture, but we did try.

Cala d'Or, a five minute drive to the north, is quickly becoming the resort to be seen in on the south east coast. It seems to be forever growing with new luxury apartments rising up from the ground every year. As well as having its own beach, Cala d'Or has a very exclusive marina, catering for yachts up to 100ft.
